Here in Hue, Vietnam, we awoke during a war and set down our weapons. We built up local democracies to work toward social justice and reconciliation.
Here in Guatemala City, we helped chase the United Fruit Company out of our nation. We told the US to end its CIA operations, and worked with the new Kennedy administration to begin decolonizing our society. We also began earthquake resilience efforts in advance of the coming 1976 quake.
